THIEF ABILITIES

(10) BACKSTAB - If Badger strikes a target from behind with surprise, he gains a +4 bonus to the attack roll and does double damage.

(05) BRIBERY - Badger can attempt to bribe an official with gifts of money or merchandise. Only one bribe can be attempted per target. If the attempt fails, the GM will make a reaction roll for the NPC to determine how he or she counters the bribery attempt. Badger's current base chance of success is 25 percent.

(05) CLIMB WALLS - This skill enables Badger to climb smooth or vertical surfaces, using cracks and similar difficult hand and footholds to gain purchase. His current base chance of success is 70 percent.

(05) DETECT NOISE - By concentrating, Badger's trained ears can sometimes discern sounds that most others cannot. His current base chance of success is 30 percent (includes Keen Hearing trait bonus).

(10) ESCAPE BONDS - Badger possesses the trained skill to escape bonds such as ropes, leather thongs, manacles, chains, and even straight jackets through a feat of contortion and determination. This skill takes five rounds to use. Badger can attempt to hurry an escape attempt, but suffers a five percent cumulative penalty for each round he tries to shave. His current base chance of success is 25 percent.

(10) FIND/REMOVE TRAPS - Badger possesses the knowledge and skill necessary to sometimes disarm small mechanical traps and alarms. His current base chance of success is 45 percent.

(05) HIDE IN SHADOWS - Badger possesses the ability to meld into shadows, bushes, and crannies. A successful thief can be effectively invisible as long as he or she remains all but motionless. Slow, deliberate movement is allowed. Badger's current base chance of success is 55 percent.

(05) MOVE SILENTLY - This is the ability to move without making noise. When trying to perform this action, Badger's movement rate is decreased by a third. His current base chance of success is 50 percent.

(10) OPEN LOCKS - Badger can attempt to pick locks using skill, tools, finesse, and luck. If Badger fails to open a lock, no attempt he makes on the same lock will be successful until he advances a level, at which time normal rates again apply. His current base chance of success is 45 percent.

(10) PICK POCKETS - Badger can use this skill to pilfer small items from the pouches, pockets, belts, sleeves, packs, or similar items of others. A failed attempt means the pilfering failed, but not necessarily that Badger was caught in the act. To determine if Badger's attempt was noticed, three times the victim's level is subtracted from 100. If Badger's die roll was equal to or greater than this number, then the pilfering attempt was noticed. Badger's current base chance of success is 55 percent.

TRAITS

(04) Keen Hearing - Badger possesses excellent aural acuity - able to hear the proverbial pin drop. In cases where hearing can be a factor in surprise, Badger receives a +1 bonus to any die roll. This applies to whenever Badger approaches an ambush, unless sufficient background noise such as a waterfall or bustling marketplace could be expected to drown out the inadvertent sounds of the ambushers. Badger adds 10 percent to his Thief ability Detect Noise (already pre-figured).
